In the beginning .....

I have just enrolled for The Art of Photography module on the BA Photography course.

My original training was as a biologist and I have always been employed in the science industry.

I have taken photographs for as long as I can remember, but started to specialise in wildlife images about 7 years ago.  I mostly take pictures of birds these days and gravitated towards this because I found it quite a challenge in the early days.  Most days I still do !  My bird images can be found at www.dbnaturephotos.com .

My reasons for looking at the OCA course were two fold.  Firstly, that it offered an opportunity to get away from the scientific/technical side of photography and how the kit works to produce an image, and broaden out into more of the artistic and conceptual elements, and secondly to develop a greater range of ability away from my beloved 500mm lens ..   It's going to be hard work to get away from thinking like a scientist and to move away from the bird portraits, so it will be interesting to see how I get on!

I plan to develop this learning blog and work entirely online as far as possible as I find that a far more accessible way of working these days.

Now its time to look through he course materials which arrived today!!
